Lake Erie is divided into seven assessment units in Ohio. Western Basin Shoreline - lake shore to 3 meters in depth extending from the Ohio-Michigan border east to Marblehead. Western Basin Open Water - lake area with a depth greater than 3 meters extending from the Ohio-Michigan border east to Marblehead.
Lake Erie Islands - lake area extending from Ohio island shores to a depth of 3 meters.
Sandusky Basin Shoreline - lake shore to a depth of 3 meters extending from Marblehead east to the Black River.
Sandusky Basin Open Water - lake area greater than 3 meters in depth extending from Marblehead east to Lorain Ridge.
Central Basin Shoreline - lake shore to 3 meters in depth extending from the Black River east to Ohio-Pennsylvania border.
